Workforce competence refers to the extent that program participants seeking employment (or better employment opportunities) have the knowledge, skills, abilities and attributes needed to be successful in the workplace.  This includes competencies in skills needed to seek and obtain employment, workplace readiness skills that are key to general workforce success, and industry or occupation-specific technical competencies.

 

While placement in a job and employment retention are the primary goals of most workforce programs, workforce competencies are essential interim outcomes for participants to achieve. Monitoring progress on these regularly and adjusting program services as needed is key to participants’ achieving eventual job placement and retention. (By Public/Private Ventures)
