Attitude toward parenting

Parenting attitudes have been found to predict parenting skills and behaviors. Positive attitudes toward parenting are associated with more positive parenting practices and a close and more nurturing parent-child relationship. In contrast, negative attitudes toward parenting (and unrealistic expectations about how children should behave) can result in parents experiencing high levels of frustration, anger and hopelessness and also a greater propensity for child abuse and neglect (Bavolek, 1984). 

To track data on this outcome measure, programs should collect participant data at intake/enrollment and at termination/exit from program (pre-post assessment).
