Attitudes Related to Antisocial or Risky Behavior
Individuals with negative attitudes toward antisocial or risky behavior perceive aggressive behavior, delinquent behavior, risky sexual behavior, and substance use as negative behaviors accompanied by moderate or high levels of risk that people should try to avoid. In contrast, individuals with favorable attitudes toward antisocial or risky behavior do not perceive these behaviors as particularly negative or risky and, in some cases, view them in a positive light. Having favorable attitudes toward risky behaviors has been found to predict involvement in these behaviors, whereas negative attitudes have been found to relate to risk avoidant behaviors (Arthur, Hawkins, Pollard, Catalano, & Baglioni, 2002).
